Privacy Policy

The short version

The Croydon Files is a small independent website. It does not exist to collect information about you. If you choose to subscribe for updates, your email address is used for that purpose. The site also uses YouTube to show videos, and the web server may retain standard technical information needed to operate and secure the site.

The Croydon Files is created and maintained by Tim Longhurst.

Email updates

If you subscribe to Croydon Files updates, I collect the email address you provide so that I can send you occasional emails about new films, stories and updates to the site.

The lawful basis for using your email address for these messages is your consent. You can withdraw that consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in emails.

The mailing list is managed using Brevo. Your email address is therefore transferred to and processed by Brevo for the purpose of managing subscriptions and sending emails.

YouTube videos

Videos on The Croydon Files are hosted by YouTube and displayed on this website using YouTube's embedded player.

When you interact with an embedded YouTube video, YouTube may receive information about that interaction and may use cookies or similar technologies in accordance with its own privacy policies. YouTube is operated by Google.

Website and server information

Like most websites, the server hosting The Croydon Files may automatically record basic technical information when the site is accessed. This can include information such as your IP address, browser type, requested page and the date and time of the request.

This information is used for the operation, security and troubleshooting of the website rather than to identify individual visitors.

Analytics and tracking

The Croydon Files does not currently use Google Analytics or a similar visitor analytics service.

If analytics are introduced in future, this Privacy Policy will be updated before that information is collected and any necessary cookie or consent controls will be introduced.

How long information is kept

Newsletter information is retained while you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your address may be retained on an appropriate suppression or unsubscribe list so that your preference not to receive further messages can be respected.

Technical server logs are retained according to the normal operational and security practices of the website's hosting provider.

Who your information is shared with

Personal information is not sold.

Information may be processed by service providers necessary to operate the site, principally the website hosting provider and Brevo for newsletter subscriptions. Embedded YouTube content is provided by Google/YouTube.

Your rights

UK data-protection law gives you rights over your personal information. Depending on the circumstances, these can include asking what information is held about you, asking for inaccurate information to be corrected, requesting deletion, restricting or objecting to its use, and withdrawing consent.

You can withdraw your newsletter consent at any time by unsubscribing.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office if you believe your personal information has been handled improperly.
